Spann Specifics

Dr. Marvin Spann is highly skilled in performing Liposuction (“Lipo”) Surgery. This procedure removes fat from the body through a small puncture that is made in the skin using a tube-like device known as a “cannula”, which helps to loosen fat cells and suction them out. Common areas for fat removal include the stomach, hips, lower back, thighs, arms, chin, and chest. Liposuction creates a slimmer appearance and is ideal for those who are at a healthy weight but still have stubborn areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. It is not an alternative to a weight loss plan, nor is it a surgery to “treat” being overweight. Las Vegas plastic surgeon, Dr. Marvin Spann, offers several liposuction techniques using PAL™ Power-Assisted Liposuction by MicroAire®, and Vaser® Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction, which allows patients to get rid of unwanted fat to reveal a fit, youthful appearance. Surgical Technique

PAL Power-Assisted Liposuction

PAL™ Power-Assisted Liposuction is an advanced liposuction procedure that uses a gentle back and forth motion to loosen and permanently remove unwanted fat deposits from the hips, thighs, abdomen, and other areas of the body.  MicroAire's® minimally invasive liposuction technique is so mild that most patients can forgo general anesthesia. Bruising and swelling are also reduced, which means that the visible results will appear sooner. In addition, less downtime means patients can return to an active lifestyle more quickly. During the power-assisted liposuction procedure, Dr. Marvin Spann uses the MicroAire® PAL system to dislodge fat from troublesome areas such as the hips, thighs, and abdomen, restoring a smooth, natural-looking contour to the body. The gentle back and forth motion simultaneously removes and purifies the fat cells, allowing Dr. Marvin Spann to preserve the excess fat for transfer into the face, hands, or buttocks for patients that desire a fat transfer procedure.

Vaser Ultrasound-Assisted liposuction

During/After Surgery

Liposuction is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. It is considered an outpatient procedure. On average, each body part (i.e. tummy, thighs, etc.) will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. After surgery, patients will wear a compression garment on the treated areas. It takes about a full week for the bruising and swelling to dissipate, and can take several months for the final results to appear. Liposuction will produce scars where the cannula incision was made, but these are usually small and will fade over time.

Expected Cost

Liposuction FAQs

How Safe is Lipo?

The media sometimes tells stories of liposuction patients who have endured bad results at the hands of inexperienced surgeons. Today’s liposuction techniques are much safer and more predictable than ever before, but surgeon skill still remains the number one factor when researching this procedure. The goal is to attain a natural and smooth result. Dr. Marvin Spann strives to provide this outcome for all of his patients who undergo Liposuction.

Is Lipo Permanent?

Fat cells that are removed during liposuction do not come back. Unfortunately, patients can still gain weight after surgery because the remaining cells can expand and become larger. However, patients who adhere to a healthy diet and exercise program will continue to see results years after surgery.

How Much Fat?

The amount of fat removed really depends on the size of the patient and their aesthetic goals. From a safety standpoint, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons recommends roughly 10 pounds of fat or less. Otherwise it is considered a high-volume liposuction, which does present an increased set of risks. It’s advised to get down to your ideal weight before undergoing a liposuction procedure.

Skin Tautness (Laxity)?

Liposuction is a surgery that removes fat and enhances the actual shape of the body. It does not address skin imperfections caused by sagging skin or cellulite under the skin. During your consultation, Dr. Marvin Spann will discuss the available procedures that address and improve skin texture. Some procedures recommended to correct skin laxity include Abdominoplasty, Thigh Lift, Neck Lift, and Butt Lift surgeries.
